The Golden Gates in Kiev was constructed during the Kievan Rus period, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The monument was part of this defensive structure and served as a grand entrance to the city. In 1970, a pavilion was built over the ancient ruins to not only protect the gates from decay, but also to recreate the original appearance of the monument.
The Independence Square, also famous as Maidan Nezalezhnosti, is the central square in Kiev, which is the main attraction of Kieve. Parades, festivals, concerts, and other entertaining city activities and holidays take place on this square. It comprises six fountains, Independence Column and artificial waterfall. The Independence Square is an amazing place to spend time with your friends it has much to offers, the huge building with the tower and chimes, the Trade Union Association Office and other attractions. The left side of the Independence square is beautifully shielded with granite. The marvellous panoramic view of Old Kiev opens from the upper floors of the square buildings. One can see the domes of Sofia Cathedral built in the 11th century, Andreevskaya Church built in the 18th century, the Central Mall, City Parliament, and a lot of administrative buildings. You can see good shops, hotels and cafes at Independence square. Two metro stations Maidan Nezalezhnosti, and Kreschatik are also situated nearby. One of the fountains of the square is decorated with statues of legendary brothers Kie, Horiv, Schek and their sister Libed. According to Nikon's Russian Primary Chronicle, they picked the place for the city foundation and decided to name it in tribute of the elder brother ‘Kie’. The sculpture composition on the central square of the Ukrainian capital portrays 4 founders of the city. One of the best prominent decorations of the central square is the Independency Column crowned with a statue of Archangel Mikhail, who is considered to be the saint patron of Kiev. In front of the column, at the end of the square you can see an arch decorated with the statue of Archangel with sword and shield.
The building of the National Opera of Ukraine, was built in the style of the French Neo-Renaissance and continues to be one of the most famous ballet and opera centres in Europe, on a level with the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. At the same time, all three theatres are united by a common Russian ballet school, and their specialists often collaborate with colleagues from other cities.
Saint Sophia’s Cathedral is an outstanding complex work started on it in 1037 and lasted for just three years,architectural monument has had only a few reconstructions, you can marvel at the Byzantine cathedral in close to its original form. In addition, it is located at the intersection of the four leading roads in Kiev, climb to the cathedral’s bell tower and you’ll be rewarded with a magnificent view from the top.
St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kiev was built in honour of Prince Vladimir of Kiev, who introduced Christianity in Kievan Rus in 988AD. The cathedral is decorated in the classical Old Byzantine style and its interior was painted by such famous artists as Mikhail Vrubel and Viktor Vasnetsov. Being located in the central part of the city, it is definitely in the list of the most important sights.
St. Andrew’s Church in Kiev is one of the most striking Baroque buildings. Its architecture and location are genuinely unique. The church is built on an artificial hill, overlooking one of Kiev’s oldest neighbourhoods, and the foundation for it is the terrace of a two-story building, with a cast-iron staircase. It has been twice hit by lightning, but still the church is is flourishing and is open to the public for services and sightseeing tours.

Description: The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Monastery is the center of Christianity in the Ukraine and home to one of the biggest and most incredible cathedrals in Kiev. Lavra is also famous for its caves with ancient crypts, which you will explore during your visit.

Complex built in 1981 on the Pechersk hills above the Dnipro river. The Ukrainian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945» was inaugurated on Pechersk in the former Klovskyi Palace on 17th October 1974. It immediately drew attention of the public and numerous visitors. It became obvious that the various thematic and rich museum collections demanded other scientific concept and the special building. All activities of the Memorial are aimed at helping people to understand origins of tragedies of wars, showing ways to prevent them and uncover the historical truth about the sacrifice and heroism of the Ukrainian people in the struggle against Nazism and promote patriotic upbringing of citizens, particularly young people.
Statue of Motherland is a monumental statue in Kiev. The stainless-steel statue stands 62 m (203 ft) tall upon the museum main building with the overall structure measuring 102 m (335 ft) including its base and weighing 560 tons. The sword in the statue's right hand is 16 m (52 ft) long weighing 9 tons, with the left hand holding up a 13 by 8 m (43 by 26 ft) shield with the State Emblem of the Soviet Union.
