Explore the mystery behind the Magnetic Hill. Lies at a distance of 30 km from Leh city on Leh-Srinagar Highway, Magnetic Hill defies the phenomenon of gravity. Surrounded by alluring mountains, it’s one of the most visited attractions in Ladakh. It is said that if you park your vehicle on the yellow box marked on the road in neutral and it will start moving uphill. There are many theories behind the curious phenomenon. One theory suggests it is just an optical illusion and the hill is actually downwards. Another theory is that there are strong magnetic forces that defy the law of gravity.
At an altitude of about 12,000 feet, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib is a beautiful religious spot and a significant attraction around Ladakh on Leh-Srinagar Highway. It is said that in the 1970s, during the construction of Nimmu Road, a rock was found with prayer flags wrapped around it. When it became impossible to move the rock, it was concluded that it was the rock that was used to kill Guru Nanak, which turned soft at the time and left him unharmed. Hence, the Gurudwara was built around that rock. It is one of the most beautiful places in Ladakh and a must-visit.
After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley, through Khardung La, the highest motorable road in the world at 18,380 ft. On your arrival in Nubra Valley and check in to the hotel /camp. After a sumptuous lunch, take a walk on the banks of Shayok river, you can also enjoy a ride on a double-humped Bactrian camel on the Sand Dunes between Diskit & Hunder Village. After breakfast, leave for Pangong Lake 14,500 ft, a drive of 6-7 hours. Arrive at camp. Spend the rest of the day at leisure and enjoy the colour changing lake and the sunset on the banks of Pangong Lake. Overnight at Pangong Lake.
After breakfast drive to Hanle, on the way cross Chushul Village and Tsaga La (15,200 Ft), Hanle is home to the Indian Astronomical Observatory. The location of the village and the observatory are highly sensitive due to the close proximity of the Tibetan / Chinese border, India set up the Himalayan Chandra Telescope, a 2m gamma-ray telescope, here. Once complete, the Major Atmospheric Cerenkov Experiment Telescope gamma-ray telescope under construction here will be the world's largest telescope at the highest altitude and the second largest gamma-ray telescope in the world. As per history, it is believed that King Singge Namgyal died here at Hanle while on his return from an expedition on Mongols. Enjoy the stay with locals at local guest house/homestay. Indian Astronomical Observatory is home to the ninth highest optical telescope in the world, situated an elevation of 14,764 feet in Hanle, Ladakh. Clear, cloudless skies throughout the year in Ladakh with a very little artificial light makes this an ideal location for astronomical observation.
After breakfast, drive to Tsomoriri Lake through Nurpa Pass (16,100 Ft) continue drive to Tsomoriri Lake, enroute cross Loma bend and Mahe Bridge. Arrive Korzok Village by late noon. Spend the evening at leisure and enjoy to walk around Tso Morir Lake to admire the scenic beauty. Overnight at Korzok Village.
After breakfast, leave to Leh via Puga (Sulphur Mine) and Polakongka pass 15892 ft, Tsokar Lake and Tanglang La Pass 17,585ft, the 2nd highest motorable road in the world. Arrivae at Leh by late evening. Overnight at Leh.
Early morning transfer to Leh airport to board flight back to destination.
